Personality:

The world of force users in Star Wars is, generally speaking, divided into the ‘good’ Jedi using the Light Side of the Force and and the ‘evil’ Sith using the Dark Side. However, the truth is the Force, like most things in nature, exists in a spectrum rather than just as two polar opposites, and Ventress at her present pull point falls at about a 6 or 7 on a 1 = pure light, 10 = pure dark scale.

Ventress enjoys being in control of her own destiny rather than being subject to the manipulations or others or the obligations that come from having close emotional connections, and still takes some delight in using dark side force powers to control others when the situation calls for it. Ventress herself admits that, once, she was much further along the dark path, a true Sith when she served under Count Dooku as his assassin/apprentice. But after Dooku betrayed her in typical Sith fashion, she has since clawed her way back through sweat and blood to her more neutral state. As part of that battle away from the dark side, she came to see that the goals of the Sith Lords (power for the sake of power, total control, and constant battle) were as empty as the Jedi’s promises of ‘peace’ and ‘true justice’ when they lacked the will to actually do what is needed to achieve their goals. There was no point in a life that was filled only with a hunger that could never be sated, and she left that life behind.

She was able to leave it behind, in large part, through the help of her mother and sisters, the force ‘witches’ or Nightsisters. This cult of force sensitive women use the dark side of the force in rituals and magic, creating a more or less symbiotic relationship with the dark side in which all the sisters live for one another and their community, rather than each individual being only out for themselves as the Sith use the dark side. However, the Nightsisters were wiped out by Dooku after they tried to help Ventress take her revenge on the Sith Lord. Though Ventress for the most part refuses to think on, let alone talk about, her feelings and pain, she is still at her core in deep mourning over this loss of the family she barely knew. They were, in truth, just another in a long line of people that she cared for that she watched die or betray her, starting with her ‘kindly’ owner when she was a slave, then her Jedi master that first taught her to use the Force, and even Dooku who she had foolishly trusted and relied on as his apprentice. She has never sat and appropriately dealt with the grief she feels over these losses. Rather, as a Sith, she used them to fuel her pain and rage at the universe. Now, however, after the latest loss of her lover (a jedi master she had tutored in the dark side), Ventress seems to have reached capacity of being able to ignore her trauma and has taken to drinking to fall asleep and generally feels weary about life, continuing her current work as a bounty hunter more out of stubbornness than any real drive. A large part of why she represses her trauma rather than deal with it is that Ventress only believes in moving in one direction: forward. This has its advantages, in that she is able to let go of most things rather than ruminating on the past, but also means that it would take an event of truly epic proportion to force her to sit down and actually deal with the scars of her past. Just ignoring it all by focusing on forward momentum is so much easier.

These past losses and life experiences have woven together to give Ventress an odd moral code. She is honestly fine being hired to do almost anything- assassination, kidnapping, breaking legs, you name it. She doesn’t bat an eye about attacking a man in front of his wife and small child to take him in to a crime lord he owed money to. Her moral line is mostly targeting families or being actively involved in selling people against their will. She doesn’t like the idea of directly harming the innocent family of someone that has earned the wrath of whatever scum she’s taking a job from today, going so far as to free a young woman she had been hired to deliver to a man that wanted to marry her against her will. Other than this she mostly follows the bounty hunter golden rule: it’s just business. Don’t fuck with her work or her money and she won’t mess with you, and she expects others to follow the same rule. She also doesn’t take it personally when people come after her because they’ve been hired to do so, nor does she personally hate those she is hired to hunt. Again, it’s just business. She’s even fine working with those that have hunted her/she has hunted later once a contract has expired and their objectives happen to align. Indeed, Ventress will form a temporary alliance with pretty much anyone that she doesn’t have a personal vendetta against- sith, jedi, crime lord, or anything else. And the number of people she has the energy to carry a personal hatred for has been severely reduced as she slips into her post failed-relationship malaise, with even her desire to kill Dooku being mostly burned out into a small, sad flame in the face of her current grief.

Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping:

Ventress is skilled in (mostly) the dark side of the force (outside of the Star Wars universe this is mostly a connection to the life energy of the universe, but I’ll keep calling it the Force for ease), along with some abilities that are ‘neutral’ and available to both light and dark side users. Under this umbrella is:

Enhanced physical abilities: She can channel the Force to enhance her strength, speed, dexterity, endurance, and constitution to beyond normal humanoid levels.

Force Sense: She can sense other people around her using the Force, and generally get an idea if the user is strong in the light or dark side based on what they are using. This sense can be blocked by those strong enough in the force that know how to conceal themselves.

Mild Precognition: Maybe it’s just faster than light reflexes, maybe it’s knowing the future. Whatever it is, she can instinctively react to incoming attacks/events like a cup falling off a table at essentially the same time it occurs, if not a split second before.

Telekinesis: Ventris can lift, hold, and throw people/objects, with larger objects or more numerous small items requiring more exertion. She can also use this ability to choke people/creatures (potentially to death) through tapping into the dark side.

Telepathy: Ventress is able to push a base emotion across the force to make people/animals act as if they were feeling them themselves. This can be used to make someone trust her slightly more/make an animal willinging climb onto her hand, or flame the faint sparks of anger in someone into a full blown rage. This will, of course, only be used on PCs with permission. I’ll be dropping the ability of hers to force people to follow simple verbal commands as a warp, leaving it to only emotional manipulation.

For basic skills, Ventress is a skilled dexterity-based fighter (focusing on dueling with her lightsaber), hacker (of Star Wars land tech), and pilot.

Are you comfortable with prominent elements of fourth-walling?: So long as it isn’t done for the lols, I am good with it!
What themes of horror/psychological thrillers do you enjoy the most?: The atmospheric horror of a world where something is just off are my favorites. A lot of Stephen King’s work that centers on normals in an abnormal situation, for instance, like the Shinning or Pet Cemetery, fit that, as does horrors more about what humans themselves are capable of, like Midsommar. Thrillers that involve situations where maybe the ‘evil’ force is actually a bit in the right (or at least have a reason other than ‘they are evil’), the original Poltergeist, for example, where it was the negligence of a construction company that lead to the haunting. Essentially, horror with some depth rather than hack and slash.
Is there anything in particular you absolutely need specific content warnings for?: Nope
